Beauty Addictions: The Body Shop Earth Lovers Body Washes

31 Aug

The Body Shop, Green Body Washes, $10, http://www.thebodyshop.com

I recently ventured into The Body Shop at The Beverly Center in Los Angeles. I hadn’t been inside of a Body Shop boutique in years and was impressed to see a variety of new products on the shelves. One of the products that caught my attention were the new green body washes. These eco-friendly washes are contained in biodegradable bottles, are sulfate and paraben-free and contain real fruit and vegetable extracts. The green body wash comes in seven scents:

  • Cucumber & Mint
  • Fragrance Free
  • Rosemary & Fig
  • Watermelon & Eucalpytus
  • Apricot & Basil
  • Lemon & Thyme
  • Pear & Lemongrass

Luella’s Guide to English Style

31 Aug

We don’t want to dredge up the terrible memories of when you first heard that Luella Bartley was shuttering her label- it took us way too long to recover from that horror. But we now have an idea of some of what she has been doing since then- she has a new book about to hit the shelves! Called Luella’s Guide to English Style, her book aims to encapsulate all that makes our English sisters cooler than us. Exploring the way that British fashion always seems to be equal parts scruffy street-style and classic polish, we are reminded of Bartley’s days as an editor at UK Vogue  and we can’t wait to get our hands on the full book. Luella’s Guide to English Style will be released September 29th.

Fashion Week Prep: DKNY Ribbon Notebook

31 Aug

DKNY Ribbon Notebook, $10, dkny.com

What do you do while you are securely in your seat waiting for a show to start at Fashion Week? Besides wondering when we will be able to eat again or gasping at Kate Lanphear’s shoes, we like to look at the notebooks that everyone else is using to jot down style notes (we assume that just about everyone is there to actually report on the shows and file thoughtful reviews, and has a notebook- otherwise, why are they there?). Yes, many of the editors and writers will have their trusty black Moleskines or some other serious-looking leather-bound black book, but we would kind of love it if we saw this DKNY notebook being put through its paces this Fashion Week.  We are in love with the print and at just $10, you can get a few to make sure you are set for the entire week.

The Market: Kain Label (a.k.a. The Perfect T-Shirt)

30 Aug

Kain Label Modal and Silk Blend T-Shirt, $90, net-a-porter.com

Regardless of how elevated our taste in fashion becomes, we will never, ever tire of throwing on a t-shirt. Which of course, means that the hunt for the perfect T is pretty much an ongoing thing, much like the search for the perfect red lipstick or the perfect dark rinse jean. We came across Kain Label a couple of years ago and have fallen fiercely in love with their easy but elegant take on minimalism. Started in 2008 by sisters Amanda and Melanie Kain, the label has crafted what we think is THE t-shirt. The drape (even the tops of the pockets fall in the most gorgeous way), the luxe fabric combination and the length have taken this classic piece to a completely different level. Kain also brings that same chic, slouchy vibe to maxi skirts, sweaters and dresses. As the summer gives way to fall, we are definitely looking to this collection for layering. For the entire FW11 collection as well as stockist info, visit www.kainlabel.com.

Beauty Addictions: NuBo Lip Perfection

30 Aug

NuBo, Instant Lip Perfection SPF 15, $62, http://www.nubobeauty.com

Normally, we wouldn’t adovocate dropping $62 dollars on a lip balm but when it comes to NuBo Instant Lip Perfection, the whopping price tag makes total sense. This multi-faceted product not only nourishes and protects lips but its also plumps them, softens them and makes them look their most beautiful. The balm includes collagen boosters and a natural lip plumping extract – Capiscum. There are also aniti-aging properties within the formulation which turn back the hands of time giving you luscious, youthful-looking lips. This balm can be worn alone or under your favorite lip color for an added boost.

Trend Report: Fall’s Hottest Beauty Trend – Metallic Smokey Eyes

30 Aug
Fall’s Biggest Beauty Trend is the Metallic Smoky Eye

As summer winds down, we are both sad to see the pool parties, bbq’s and beachside bonfires coming to an end but we can’t help but get excited about the oncoming autumn season filled with leather boots, Fashion Week and sophisticated makeup. One of the biggest beauty trends for the fall season is the metallic smoky eye. It’s chic and sexy and works well on all skin tones. We love the idea of adding some shimmer and shine to the traditional smoky eye which is why the metallic smoky eye is such a major trend. Check out the step-by-step tutorial from celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldrigde!

The Industry: Model Moment: Leomie Anderson

29 Aug

One of the models that we hope to see plenty of during Fashion Week next month is 19 year-old British beauty Leomie Anderson. Her first season working the shows was last September, where she walked for Marc by Marc Jacobs, Giles, Ungaro and Loewe (where she opened). We love the structure of her face, including the amazingly wide-set eyes that lend an other-worldly quality to her look. Represented by Premiere in London, Anderson famously (and courageously) wrote an open letter in the UK Times about her experiences with racism in the modeling industry, stating that Milan was the hardest nut to crack for dark-skinned girls, and that many black models don’t even bother traveling to Milan for castings. Even though the issues that Milanese designers seem to have with black models are well-known to insiders, it’s still unsettling to hear it firsthand from yet another model. We will continue to follow Anderson’s career and hope that we will have lots of runway and editorial shots to share with you. Here are some of our favorite images of her so far.

The Market: We Heart Frye

29 Aug

Frye Jane Strappy Boot, $358, thefryecompany.com

We admit it, we’re not the “rugged” type. Our idea of “roughin’ it” is staying in a hotel without room service or chocolates on the pillow. But we can have fun pretending in Frye boots and we can easily imagine having a section of our closets dedicated exclusively to Frye. From chic motorcycles, tall boots and towering platforms, Frye literally does have something for every girl. To celebrate the upcoming opening of their first flagship in SoHo, we are selecting our favorite Fryes. Don’t even ask us to pick our absolute favorite, as we kind of want them all. See the entire collection at www.thefryecompany.com.
