The narrative of deconstructed glamour is one that has always been intriguing to a certain population of fashion girls. That includes us, and we love the idea of approaching holiday dressing from a grittier, more subversive, point of reference. That’s why we were stopped in our tracks when we came across this tank from Amen. It has a vintage vibe, thanks to the laced mesh and nude backing, but the slash details and raw edges give it a darkness that is much more compelling than a strapless LBD at the office holiday party. We imagine this with an inky black skinny pant and a spiky black or nude stiletto.
We know what you’re thinking! Bronzer? In the fall? Crazy, we know! But think about it this way. As soon as the summer sun faded, so did your naturally sun-kissed summer glow which means you need all the help you can get when it comes to livening up your skin and look. One great way to do just that without looking like your headed to the beach is by investing in a quality matte bronzer. Matte bronzers are devoid of shimmers or glimmers which means they just add a nice hint of warmth and vitality to your look without the razzle dazzle.
We highly recommend the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder because of it’s smooth, even application and gorgeous color – not too ruddy and not too bronze. It works well on a variety of skin tones especially for us women of color. Apply it on the hallows of the cheeks, around the temples, down the bridge of the nose and on the jawbone for some definition and color.
*Quick little beauty tip, after you apply your favorite eye shadows, lightly sweep your crease with this beautiful bronzer for a nice dose of warm color.

Mark your calendars for February 7, 2012. That’s when a new book about Jimmy Choo will hit the shelves. Written by company founder Tamara Mellon, Jimmy Choo is an inside look at one of the most recognizable luxury brands on the planet. Red carpet images and photos from the Choo archives lay the groundwork for a peek inside the company and deep inside the love that celebs and everyday women alike have for their Choos. We are already obsessed with the cover and cannot wait to get this little volume in our hands.
A few weeks ago, we posted a story about our quest for chic, grown-up feather jewelry that could stand the test of time and not make us look like teenagers hanging out at the mall. We may have just found the feather necklace to end all feather necklaces- this gorgeous piece by Isabel Marant is one of the most cravetastic pieces of jewelry that we have come across in a long time. In typical Marant style, the necklace is pure rock-and-roll with a dramatic hyper-extended length that skims the waist and burnished gold hardware that cements its stage-worthy status. But what we love the most is the suede fringe paired with the iridescent black and dark-green feathers that would catch light in the coolest way. Yep, we kind of need this necklace this holiday season..
With the holidays quickly approaching, one of the easiest and chicest ways to add some shimmer and glimmer to your look is with a gorgeous nail polish. Whether you want to go traditional with a sparkling red hue or prefer to rock it out with a glimmering black shade, it’s all about glamming up your fingers and toes with a polish packed with glitter. One of our favorite glitter polishes comes from our favorite nail brand Butter London. Black Knight is a black base layered with pink, blue and silver glitters. It’s a beautiful yet sophisticated way to go for the glamour and still look polished and put-together. We love this shade and can’t wait to sip our hot toddies by the fire while our fingers do all the glowing!
Even though the holidays aren’t officially here, it sure does feel like it. We know the holidays are coming when our inboxes are filled with press releases all about holiday makeup. One such holiday collection that has us ready to whip out our favorite sequined Louboutin heels is Chanel’s Holiday 2011 Collection. Classic, traditional and 100% glamorous, it is the quintessential makeup collection for your holiday beauty look. From the dazzling red nail lacquer in Rouge Carat to the sultry red Rouge Allure Lipstick in Famous, this exquisite collection channels Old Hollywood with a bit of a modern touch. If you want to check out this must-have holiday collection for yourself, pop the hood!
We’re not sure where we stand on the new trend of techni-colored brows but it does make for some amazing editorial shots. We recently checked out two gorgeous editorials in the December 2011 issue of Flare Magazine where models sported blue brows. They didn’t come off as cartoonish as we would have imagined. The shot above was from a hair story and we can’t help but think the blue brow has a touch of sophistication that is a bit suprising to behold.
This shot is from a fashion editorial although the brows seem to dominate the shots moreso than the clothes. This brow is much more striking and is definitely a statement brow with a futuristic/technological twinge. We are loving the idea of playing with color since that’s the final frontier in the world of brows. What do you think? Love it or leave it?
We have a special place in our hearts for Bobbi Brown! She single-handedly made makeup more approachable, wearable and realistic for the modern woman. I remember when I first became of aware of Bobbi Brown and her vastly growing beauty empire. I was in my first year in graduate school in Miami and I was working as a counter manager for Smashbox Cosmetics as The Falls, an upscale shopping mall in the suburb of Kendall. My counter was juxtaposed to Bobbi Brown’s counter and within minutes of starting my new position, I quickly became friends with the Bobbi Brown counter manager and her staff. I loved playing with gorgeous glosses and watching the girls make up their clients with Bobbi Brown’s amazing foundations, powders and blushes.
It’s hard to believe how fast time flies but Bobbi Brown is celebrating 20 years in the beauty business which is truly an amazing accomplishment! She has given the beauty world dozens of iconic products. Check out a few of these must-have items after the jump!
The holiday season always finds us craving new jewelry- every year, something shiny and sparkly ends up on our wish lists. We recently came across a cool jewelry collection by Monika Chiang. Chiang’s pieces strike an on-point balance of tough and pretty and we wish we were in LA to see her collection in person at her Robertson Blvd boutique. Chiang also has a small ready-to-wear line and plans for a Prince Street boutique in the near future. Here are few pieces from her collection that we plan to chat with Santa about. Oh, and yes, there are driving gloves below- as city girls, we don’t drive, but they are impossibly chic and studded. So we need them.
