Nails have come a long way. From basic neutrals to over the top blinged out glitters, traditional rules for tips and toes no longer apply. In 2012, the rules are about to bend even further with the introduction of rainbow nails. Imagine a virtual rainbow of color on all ten of your fingers and you’ve got the trend down. This is certainly a very eclectic look that may or may not work with your typical aesthetic but it’s certainly a fun way to infuse color and youthfulness into any and every style. We are loving the campy, fun quality of it and look forward to rocking it this spring and summer. If the neon bright shades don’t make you smile, opt for pastels or even matte shades for a unique twist on the trend!
Trend Report: Black Nails
30 NovThere was once a time in the world of fashion and beauty when wearing black nails signified one’s anti-establishment position and a sense of rebellion against all things commercial and safe. Fast forward to 2011 and wearing black nails means something all together different. Black nail polish exudes style, sophistication and a slight rock and roll edge even if you’re not a member of a band. We love the new black nail trend as it has evolved from it’s punk roots into a more chic, wearable version. The main difference between the old school black nail look and the current trend is finish. In the past, black nail polish was matte and messy and was not meant to look high class or pretty. Nowadays, the way to wear black nails is with heavy shine and luminosity. Here are a few of our fave black nail shades!

Trend Report: Techni-Colored Brows
11 NovWe’re not sure where we stand on the new trend of techni-colored brows but it does make for some amazing editorial shots. We recently checked out two gorgeous editorials in the December 2011 issue of Flare Magazine where models sported blue brows. They didn’t come off as cartoonish as we would have imagined. The shot above was from a hair story and we can’t help but think the blue brow has a touch of sophistication that is a bit suprising to behold.
This shot is from a fashion editorial although the brows seem to dominate the shots moreso than the clothes. This brow is much more striking and is definitely a statement brow with a futuristic/technological twinge. We are loving the idea of playing with color since that’s the final frontier in the world of brows. What do you think? Love it or leave it?
Trend Report: Designer Nail Art
8 NovAs designer brands continue to skyrocket in popularity, so does the desire to obtain such brands which can cause a fashion-crazed woman to go for broke in order to claim her favorite luxury brands. If you’re like us and don’t want to be in the poor house trying to rock the hottest new designer bags and shoes, you can easily wear your love of fashion without breaking the bank. The hottest new trend in luxury and fashion is wearing your favorite designer labels on your nails. Many of the top nail artists are showcasing their love of fashion by painting your favorite logos on your nails. We are loving this trend although it can get a bit much if every finger is a different designer label. We suggest just getting one nail – like your ring finger – painted with your favorite designer logo and painting the rest a corresponding color or possibly a pattern like the gorgeous Sophy Robson creation above!
Trend Report: Are You Down to Dye?
18 OctWe’ve been seeing this new trend in hair all over the place from celebs to runway models and even fashion editorials but we are still not sure if the jury is out on this look with mainstream stylesetters. The look is all about coloring your ends and giving your everyday look a major beauty boost. Unlike the ombre hair trend which goes from dark to light or vice versa, this color trend goes outside the box and is all about dabbling with wild colors that would otherwise be reserved for Halloween or for members of Lady Gaga’s entourage. Here are a few other versions of the look. Weigh in! Do you love it or hate it?
Trend Report: Temporary Lip Tattoos are Great for Halloween and Holiday Parties
13 OctWhen we first learned of a new beauty product called Violent Lips, we weren’t exactly sure what to make of it. These temporary lip tattoos transform your lips into something out of a cartoon or an avante garde beauty editorial. They come in a variety of patterns, styles and looks and are easy to apply. They last a long time and are applied and sealed using water. You can remove them with mineral oil or baby oil. We think these lip tattoos are perfect for Halloween as they will jazz up any look. Also, for the holiday season, these fun tattoos will make you and your lips the talk of the party circuit. Just be sure to pare down the rest of your beauty look if you opt to rock these lip tattoos or you will run the risk of looking like Nicki Minaj’s understudy.
Trend Report: Two-Toned Nails
30 SepTwo-toned nails are sure to be one of the biggest trends for Spring 2012. Unlike the traditional French and American manicures, this new two-toned nail has a modern ombre effect that takes this look to chic new heights. We are infatuated with the various color combinations such as; black/blue and lilac/eggplant. Several designers including Prabal Gurung, Jen Kao and Parkchoonmoo sent models down the runway rocking this bold new nail trend. We look forward to dipping our tips in this new design. Here are a few more gorgeous examples to drool over!
Trend Report: Magnetic Manicure
26 SepTrend Report: Candy Coated Hair for Spring/Summer 2012
16 SepThe New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 shows are coming to an end today which means it’s time for editors like us to figure out the predominant trends that made appearances throughout the shows. When it comes to beauty, we couldn’t help but notice the bare face with textured skin and barely-there lips as some of the highlights of the spring/summer 2012 shows. However, one trend that we definitely didn’t see coming is the brightly colored hair trend. Several designers sent their models down the catwalk rocking candy coated hair in various styles. Color seems to have left the face and migrated to the head. In the past, hair this bright would’ve been considered cartoonish or even punkish but the way the designers styled the colored coifs makes us believe that bright tones are now seen as modern and sophisticated which makes sense especially when paired with the nude face. We think you should proceed with caution with the bright hair trend as you don’t want to appear clownish or worse yet like a Nicki Minaj clone.
Trend Report: Fall’s Hottest Shade: Teal
7 SepIn the past, fall beauty consisted of the basic neutrals such as; chocolate brown, vanillas and pumpkin spice. Even though we love the sophisticated fall palette of old, we’re super stoked about the vibrant new fall palette heading our way this autumn. The basic neutrals are still a traditional favorite but add in some pops of color such as the hottest shade of the season: teal and you’ll be winning big time in the beauty and style department. Here are a few of our favorite teal beauty items for the fall. Get your color on!
