The Collections:Duro Oluwu FW11

8 Apr

Have you ever seen those girls who can perfectly pair a fisherman stripe with a subtle plaid? If you need a quick tutorial on the chicest way to mix and match prints, take a spin through the collections of London-based, Nigerian-born designer Duro Olowu. Since launching his label in 2004, Oluwu has become the master of the print mash-up. His Fall 2011 presentation offered more subtle graphics than what we are used to seeing from him, but it was no less intriguing in its effect. In only 17 looks, Oluwu made a statement with a digital print that was reminiscent of the geometry of early modern art and a tropical floral that was less “aloha” and more tony private island. The addition of tweed coats and skirts grounded the looks in a way that makes the collection accessible to a wider audience wary of the magpie combinations.
