Hussein Chalayan Book

11 May

For all of us looking for more insight into the creative mind of British designer Hussein Chalayan, a new book to be released this July is on our must-read list for the summer.  The Turkish-born designer and artist is most well-known for his defiantly high-minded collections, best typified by a  wooden coffee table that could transform into a skirt. His fashion shows were more like performance art pieces, and his sometimes confrontational attitude towards the industry as a whole often put him at odds with some of the fashion press. Chalayan has simply explored an area that was a natural reaction to the money-driven engine of fashion- he was presenting the idea of fashion as objet d’art, fashion as something that could (and should) be contemplated, not mindlessly consumed. The book, called Hussein Chalayan, will feature not only Chalayan’s work in fashion, but also other projects such as art installations and video stills.
