The Collections: Max Mara Resort 2012

23 May

We are still a little on the fence about Resort collections. We understand that fashion is becoming more and more seasonless, and we appreciate that the Resort collections often provide a preview of a label’s spring line, but we just have to wonder if women (and retailers, for that matter) are being given enough time to fully process collections before the next one is presented. Pre-fall, Pre-spring, Resort- it can all seem a bit much even for the most ardent of stylephile. That being said, we are kind of loving the Max Mara 2012 Resort collection. The primary reason being that beyond the typical purpose of Resort as “holiday in Capri” clothes, this collection offers a surprising level of real pieces that a real woman can make use of for day and night in her real life, not just to hang out on a yacht in.  All of these pieces are just waiting to be integrated into any closet, for any season.  The main story here is modern classic- easy, flared pants, sophisticated tunics and dresses, and a couple of chic coats (one of the coats has a slight Bonnie Cashin influence that is an intriguing nod to the 60’s) . There are also a few color-blocking elements that point to the possibility of that trend being carried on through next spring as well.
