The Collections: Emilio de la Morena FW11

3 Jun

If you are looking for pieces that you can laze about in on the weekends, Emilio de la Morena is not the designer for you. A relatively new name on the London fashion scene, de la Morena is a Spanish-born designer who is adept at perfecting the modern ladylike, pulled-together aesthetic. For fall 2011, de la Morena showed a collection of body-con dresses and skirts, the details of which bear full witness to his desire to be a sculptor before he turned to fashion. Just about every piece featured some sort of paneling or softly layered tiers, lending an architectural quality to simple sheaths and slim, knee-length skirts. De la Morena may also harbor some talent as an abstract painter, as there was super saturated color and beautifully executed embroidery on sheer tops and skirts that was unlike anything seen on the runway this season. De la Morena’s profile has been raised over the past few months, as his dresses have been seen on celebs like Victoria Beckham and Julia Restoin Roitfeld. Fast fashion this is not, and if you are someone who takes your fashion seriously, Emilio de la Morena just might be the designer for you.
