The Collections: Gary Graham SS12

8 Sep

Gary Graham’s collections always bring to mind a vision of a what the closet of a boarding school girl who ran off with her lead-singer-of-a-punk-band boyfriend would look like: the polish of a girl of proper breeding is there, but so is the slightest element of carelessness and disrepair. Something that is just a touch “off” and something that makes his collections compelling. For spring 2012, Graham’s training as a textile designer is on display as he managed (in a season never short on flowers), to create a group of floral graphics that feels fresh and not cloying. Also interesting are the dyeing techniques on several of the pieces that yielded muted hues to make them look as if they were just unearthed from a grandmother’s dress up box and had aged with time. Easy dresses are juxtaposed with structured jackets and a tutorial on artful layering is there for the taking. Here are a few of our favorite looks.
