The Collections: Cushine et Ochs SS12

9 Sep

Don’t look now, but Cushnie et Ochs just played the pretty card. Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs could always be counted on to offer up an elevated version of the dark side with a side of 21st century vamp.  But this season, the mood has been lifted a bit. Pops of color( lemon yellow and bubblegum pink) punctuate a collection primarily grounded by white, stone, and yes, black. Dresses dominated, with peplums and full skirting giving off an undeniable retro vibe. But the Cushnie et Ochs precision is front and center in just about every look- razor sharp cutouts suggests the collarbone as a new erogenous zone and the peplums functioned more like a specific type of armor, moving them beyond their traditional waist-defining purpose. And as for the vamp, she will find the plunging necklines, nipped waists and slim pencil skirts of particular interest.  The exercise of the one color head-to-toe looks with the bright color story might not have been completely successful but it must be said that the venture into color is indeed intriguing for this label. Here, a few looks from the collection.
