Artemis Wragge Memento Mori Cashmere and Silk-Blend Scarf, $395, net-a-porter.com

Anyone who has studied Art History can’t help but be a little fascinated by the idea of the Memento Mori– the reminder of our mortality found in paintings throughout the years, especially in Italian Renaissance and Northern European masterpieces. Usually, this was in the form of a skull, either placed on a scholar’s desk or in the hand of the subject of the portrait. Essentially, the message was no matter how noble your family or whatever your lot in life, we all suffer the same fate eventually.  We kind of love the idea of  a memento mori that you can wear, and a luxe one, at that. Skulls are everywhere and on everything, but the 19th century med school rendering of the skulls and bones on this scarf elevate it past mere pop culture iconography.
