- Black Nails are the Perfect Way to Add Some Edge to Your Holiday Look
There was once a time in the world of fashion and beauty when wearing black nails signified one’s anti-establishment position and a sense of rebellion against all things commercial and safe. Fast forward to 2011 and wearing black nails means something all together different. Black nail polish exudes style, sophistication and a slight rock and roll edge even if you’re not a member of a band. We love the new black nail trend as it has evolved from it’s punk roots into a more chic, wearable version. The main difference between the old school black nail look and the current trend is finish. In the past, black nail polish was matte and messy and was not meant to look high class or pretty. Nowadays, the way to wear black nails is with heavy shine and luminosity. Here are a few of our fave black nail shades!

Case Study #22, Pierre Koenig, 1959-1960
Case Study houses have been on our “if I win Lotto” wish list for a long, long time. The 8 original Case Study houses were built as cost-effective housing for soldiers returning to California from WWII and showcase the work of some of the most influential architects of the Mid-Century Modern era. Others were built after that period as well, and all feature the same spare economy of line, the strong play of the horizontal and the vertical and the airy, hyper-modern minimalism that pretty much sums up late 1950’s product design. We love this idea as it applies to fashion- where a stripped-down vibe can let the construction and the geometrics of a piece take center stage.

What usually gets us to a museum is to satisfy our Jacob Lawrence or Van Gogh fix. But what keeps us there long after we have wandered through the galleries is the seriously awesome statement jewelry stocked at the museum shops. No matter what your taste in sparkle is, you can find something to love at all of the major museum stores, and if you are a member, there’s always a discount! Here, some pieces that we love from a few museums in the US.
