If you are like us, there are large piles of old fashion magazines occupying much space in your apartment. One of the reasons that we can’t bear to part with magazines that are (sometimes) decades old is the ads. Beyond being able to see models-of-the-moment in their prime, we love to look back at labels that are no longer on the scene (Claude Montana), or have been taken over by new designers (Thierry Mugler). Here, a few vintage ads that we have come across lately. Our favorites being the DVF ad with both Iman and Gia(!!!) and the CK One image featuring the lovely model-turned designer Lois Samuels (that’s her on the far left).
While the holiday insanity swirls around us, we have been finding a bit of sanctuary in the Pre-Fall ’12 collections. Here, our favorite looks that we really wish we could wear right now. Also, a special shout-out to two of our favorite late 90’s-early 00’s Supermodels, Kirsty Hume and Hannelore Knuts, who are featured in the Erdem and VPL collections, respectively. And yes, we did just capitalize Supermodel.
There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a big box under the tree with a big red bow and your name on it (especially if the box is big enough to hold something that can hang in your closet). But we are certainly not ones to turn up our noses at a smaller package, and the kid in us will always love reaching down into a stocking and pulling out something fabulous. Here are five wonderful pieces that we would love to find in our stocking this holiday.
If it hasn’t happened already, the hot, sultry summer nights that we love will slowly give way to cool and crisp evenings that signal that fall is just around the corner. This is when the trench, one of the pieces that everyone should have on the ready in their closets, has it’s time in the spotlight. There is no way to overestimate the outfit-transforming properties of a well-fitting trench, and we daydream about have a one in every possible color. Here are a few of our favorites, from ultra-luxe, to budget-friendly.
DVF (Diane Von Furstenberg) is a legend in the world of fashion with her iconic wrap dress still considered the most figure-flattering dress any woman could ever own. With the success of her clothing line, it was inevitable that the queen of glamour and sophistication would venture into the world of beauty. She launched a makeup collection as well as a fragrance line which has won her many loyal fans and life-long customers. Her latest launch is sure to be another winner. DIANE is her newest fragrance which has an October launch date and will be sold exclusively at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Sephora. She recently discussed her new fragrance with WWD:
“I wanted a perfume that reflected womanhood — what I know, what I feel about being a woman — and the power that we all have that we can be the woman we want to be,” she continued at an event here Tuesday night to preview the fragrance. “I feel like in the past 10 years, people have forgotten the magic that a perfume can have, and the power that it has. And therefore, I definitely wanted to do something powerful and seductive, without being aggressive.”
According to the press release, the fragrance has a floral woodsy scent and includes violet and frangipani.
Inspired by the forthcoming Missoni for Target Home Collection, we went in search of beautiful home pieces by our favorite designers. Of course, we started with Diane von Furstenberg’s DVF Home. Wanting to be someone else isn’t really our thing, but Ms. von Furstenberg is definitely someone that we could totally have a Freaky Friday moment with and live her life for a day (or a week). She is the perfect mix of ultra-modern intelligence and confidence, and her collection for the home (launched this past January) is reflective of her impeccable taste and world travels.
