As news surfaces that Tom Ford reveals in a recent interview that he never gets hit on by men or women (clearly, these are people with some sort of vision problems…), we thought it would be a good time to revisit an amazingly well-done book about Ford released a few years ago. Originally meant as a tribute to his career in fashion after he had announced that he would be leaving fashion to pursue other interests, Tom Ford chronicles his work with both Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, spanning the years 1994-2004.
Tom Ford is generously illustrated, with both color and black and white photos putting a fine point on Ford’s highly stylized version of fashion as viewed through the lens of blatant sex and sensuality. With a foreword written by Anna Wintour, we think that this is an interesting book to flip through again as Ford proceeds with his re-entry into the fashion world.
Chances are, if you are reading this from somewhere in the U.S., you are in the middle of an unrelenting heat wave. Less is definitely more during this time of the year, and thick plastic-frame sunnies just won’t cut it. We’re on the hunt for the perfect pair of weightless, metal-frame sunglasses. Here are some of our favorites.
While most people were probably spending their weekend frolicking at beaches and at Father’s Day BBQ’s, etc., we were quietly obsessing over the just-released video lookbook for Tom Ford FW 2011. Ford’s disdain for the current method of releasing images from the collections 10 seconds after the runway show has been well-documented. So while the powers that be sort through the best way to deal with the intersection of the digital age and the desire to cling to the perceived exclusivity of the fashion industry, we will busy ourselves with the sheer gorgeousness of this collection. If we were the holiday parties type, the acid greens and yellows would definitely be on our radar for the grandest of grand entrances. Maybe we didn’t realize how much we missed the lush elegance of Mr. Ford until he came back on the scene…
Tom Ford is a tease. He released an exquisite 12 piece lipstick collection with Estee Lauder last year but he has yet to release his own comprehensive collection. Well, it looks as though our beauty prayers have been answered. Tom Ford will be a launching his first full beauty collection. The Tom Ford Beauty Collection will be available around the world in only 35 doors. There will be individual Tom Ford counters that will exclusively sell the beauty collection. We are not sure where the collection will be sold in the US but as soon as we are made aware of the exclusive locations, we will certainly update you. The collection will include color, skincare and fragrance and is sure to become a cult classic amongst the Hollywood set!
